Did Santorum’s endorsement hurt Rubio? Christie hopes so.

Remember Rick Santorum, the 2nd-place finisher in the 2012 GOP primaries who barely registered as a blip on this year’s election radar? He dropped out after Iowa and endorsed Marco Rubio. As a new Chris Christie ad points out, Santorum probably backed the wrong candidate and Rubio probably wishes he never did.

When asked on theĀ Morning Joe about Rubio’s accomplishments, Santorum wasn’t able to name any. He kept shifting his answer to the question that was repeated over and over again by the hosts. In the end, it was almost as if Santorum’s own feelings of support were melting as he realized he really couldn’t find anything appealing about Rubio other than that he’s good at winning elections.

This is playing out nicely in a new campaign ad by Christie which is running in New Hampshire. As voters prepare to go to the polls on Tuesday, Rubio has good poll numbers but he also has some of the weakest supporters.
