Displacement Beasts

“There is no replacement for displacement” has been uttered by more than one car enthusiast over the years and almost every time they are correct.  If you want the angriest and most powerful cars on the road they have to come equipped with some of the most powerful engines on the market to be the right choice for an exciting right.  In every aspect of our lives we want more whether it’s a bit more dessert, a little more sleep, another drink or a bigger engine with more power.  The more you get the greater superiority you feel compared to those who make use of smaller engines that just don’t come close to being what we see in this list.

Ferrari F12 TDF – 6.3-liter V12 – Big, bold and pleasantly powerful this massive beast finds its way inside one of the most highly acclaimed Ferrari racing models on the track.  Giving us 770 horsepower and 519 lb.-ft. of torque when it reaches 9,000 rpm this is a car that is out for some serious speed and will make it easy for you to absolutely have a fantastic drive.  How fast can this car drive?  Imagine reaching sixty mph in less than three seconds and continuing on to high rates of speed.

Audi A8 L W12 – 6.3-liter W12 – Instead of the V pattern we are used to this engine uses a W configuration that is essentially two of the V6 engines put together at the crankshaft.  This makes for a vehicle in the long wheelbase that can still reach sixty mph in only 4.4 seconds as it makes us of  the 500 horsepower and 463 lb.-ft. of torque this engine gives us to allow for a luxury drive that is elegant, fast and ultra-powerful with no thought to the fuel that is easily consumed.

Lamborghini Centenario – 6.5-liter V12- As a car that is celebrating the company reaching the century mark the engine that makes it all happen is a 6.5-liter V12 that offers up 759 horsepower and 507 lb.-ft. of torque.  While this is the same engine that is found on the Aventador it makes less power, which makes the tuning and increase in power the perfect match for the fact we constantly strive for more.  With this big beast doing all the work the Lamborghini that is in celebration mode can enjoy being the right choice to keep the party going all year long.

Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty/GMC Sierra Heavy Duty – 6.6-liter Duramax Diesel – When a truck needs to be able to move mountains or create a new coastline with the connection of one tow hook this is the engine that can get the job done.  This big brute takes up a full 403 cubic inches of space and offers us 397 horsepower but an insane 765 lb.-ft. of torque to give you all the pulling power you could want from a massive power plant that is made to help change the face of the world without even breaking a sweat.

Ford 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel – Ram 6.7-liter Cummins diesel – As strange as it may sound the Ram and Ford have the same size for their powerful diesel models to give us a pair of serious monsters.  These two together can easily give us every alteration to the landscape we could ask for and they will simply come back looking for more work.  The Ford will give you a V8 setup and offers 440 horsepower with 860 lb.-ft. of torque while the Ram uses a straight six setup and has 385 horsepower but 900 lb.-ft. of torque to have the most torque of any truck on the road today.

Rolls-Royce Phantom – 6.749-liter V12 – In order to have a smooth ride an engine does work the best when there are twelve cylinders and this one has one of the largest and longest running engines on the market under the hood.  This is an engine that is made to be refined and allow your driver to take you where you need to go without jarring your drink loose from your hands.  This is made possible with the 453 horsepower and 531 lb.-ft. of torque this beauty has to offer you so that you can have the absolute smoothest ride possible.

Bentley Mulsanne – 6.75-liter V8 – Typically at this size the engine is either a diesel or one that has at least a dozen cylinders, but Bentley went a different way and gives us a V8 that offers this massive displacement.  Using two turbochargers to draw all the power from this engine that powers a heavy car you will get to have 530 horsepower and 811 lb.-ft. of torque to make this a car that could tow a skyscraper behind it if the opportunity presented itself and this car was the one needed to get the job done.

Ford E-Series Commercial Cutaway Chassis – 6.8-liter V10 – Do you ever wonder what engine is under the hood of some of the largest trucks on the road.  This is one that offers you a configurable chassis so you can have it set up to do exactly the work you need.  This massive V10 shows up with 305 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque to make it feel like its under-powered, but we aren’t talking about the most powerful engines on the road, but the larges with the biggest overall displacement, which certainly means this one is to be included in the list.

Hennessey Venom GT – 7.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 – When you see the Hennessey name attached to any car you already know it has to be an insane model.  This is currently the fastest car as it has turned in a speed of 270.49 mph that has actually been verified.  With this massive engine propelling this car to this amazing speed the Venom GT offers up 1,244 horsepower and 1,155 lb.-ft. of torque that all has to be matched with parts that can handle this kind of power, but Hennessey solved that problem so that we could witness a car that currently is the one that holds the record for others to try and beat.

Dodge Viper – 8.4-liter V10 – We know the Viper is insane to drive as it loves to be out of control and with the engine that comes in as the largest for the production car market this car is one that will give you nightmares and fits if you don’t know how to handle the power.  This is a grown up engine for real adults to drive with 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque coming in naturally aspirated form that is attached to a manual transmission to make this one of the most raw driving experiences anyone can have at the track.
