Israel to use new DC Bible museum as outpost for antiquities

One of the biggest risks with storing ancient artifacts in a single location is that they can be susceptible to disaster. Whether it’s natural disasters or man-made such as the problems that the Islamic State is creating for antiquities in the Middle East, single points of storage can put history at risk.

Israel Antiquities Authority has agreed to contribute some of their Biblical antiques to the Museum of the Bible. The 8-story building is being constructed in Washington DC with a cost of $400 million. It will open near the National Mall in 2017.

According to the Herald Review:

Researchers and curators from the Israeli authority will write the exhibition text based on their research from numerous excavations in the field, and the museum will design the exhibit, said Jacob Fisch, the executive director of the New York-based Friends of the Israel Antiquities Authority.
