Reddit Tips from the Top Dog

Of all the social media sites out there, Reddit is the enigma.  It is both the easiest to use and often hardest to understand.  What works on other social media sites fails miserably at Reddit sometimes, while other times the community will shoot a story, picture, or video straight to the top faster than anyone.

New users are able to jump in and make an impact if they have the right story at the right time.  There is no “build up your friends” period necessary - the right piece of media, and someone can be on the front page of Reddit on Day 1.

Here are some tips from an interview conducted a while back, but the information is still valid and applies today.  We interviewed qgyh2, the top user at Reddit, who was gracious enough to share some tips when others told us to shove off.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been studying the major social news websites. Reddit, being one of the best ones, was obviously tops on my list. I did everything that seemed to work well on Digg, Propeller, Newsvine, and most other social media sites.

The results were different from the others. I was successful in the others. Needless to say, I wasn’t successful at Reddit.
