Sometimes all it takes to stay awake is a little stimulation.

One of the things that makes social media such an attractive venue for bloggers, writers, and Internet marketers is that a strong site like Digg or Reddit can send thousands of visitors to your site in a short period of time. This isn’t the case at Mixx.com, currently, as hitting their front page does not translate into any burst at all, really, in traffic.
The “big picture” is that for social media sites to stay popular, they have to have active users. What has been happening over the last several months at Mixx is that they are not keeping many of their active users because of the traffic issue. There are other issues, but the site itself does so well at fixing problems that plague other social media sites that it’s amazing that this one, simple fix isn’t implemented.
It’s easy, really. Make the front page an actual front page and make it link to the source instead of an inner page. Whether or not this happens remains to be seen, but if they don’t do something quickly, they may end up being the bust that Netscape/Propeller have been over the years. Mixx has a lot of potential, but it’s drowned out by the single flaw of traffic.
With the recent happenings at Digg and the apparent rise of Mixx, it would seem that the balance of power in social media is shifting. The question is: why do Mixx front page stories still not drive any traffic?
With huge gains in all of the traffic reports, it would seem that Mixx would be at the very least close to Reddit’s ability to drive thousands of visitors to a website from the front page. As recently as last week, we tested a story that hit the front page of Mixx to see if it was finally there in the way that it sends traffic.
It’s not.

It is indeed strange that such a simple fix (especially one that could save Mixx’s very existence) isn’t implemented. I mean, there’s certainly no shortage of social bookmarking sites on the web, so they really don’t have an excuse not to fix it.
