Some will say that it was a silly move for Jeb Bush to speak in “hostile territory” by going to the Americans for Prosperity summit in Columbus, Ohio this weekend. Others will say that it was a test he had to take if he has any chance of appealing to conservative voters. Either way, the GOP presidential candidate came out fairing very poorly.
Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz shined on his home turf at the Koch brothers event. He galvanized the crowd to the point of earthshaking applause, solidifying his position as the right-wing choice for President. The other three speakers – Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, and Rick Perry – performed better than Bush but still fell well short of the support given to Cruz.

The event is significant because it’s an opportunity for presidential candidates to impress the conservative group, which spent more than $30 million in advertising against Obama’s re-election in 2012 and has activists, donors and organizers in 36 states and an operating budget for 2016 of roughly $125 million.
