The final GOP debate prior to the Iowa caucus was the point that made up my mind. Marco Rubio is going to be a very good Republican candidate for President in a future election, but he will have his lunch eaten if he’s the GOP nominee this year. The funny part is that he’s gaining a reputation as being the most electable. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, he might be able to give Donald Trump a run for his money as the least-electable major GOP candidate.
It’s easy to see his virtues as young, passionate, smooth, and likable. Conventional wisdom tells us that this would make him a strong candidate, but he’s simply not ready. He comes across as much less mature, both in life as well as politics, as even a young Senator Barack Obama was in 2008. Rubio seems more like a sidekick than a superhero. Right now, America needs a superhero to overcome the drastic regressions that have occurred in our country the last eight years.
If he’s the nominee, I’ll support him. I like him enough to accept him. However, his recent personal financial problems combined with his penchant for political expediency make him the type of candidate that needs to mature before he’s given a shot at the top spot. To march him out as the nominee this year will be wasting a talented politician by throwing him to the wolves when he’s not ready.
For the sake of defeating the Democrats, Ted Cruz is the best choice. For the sake of bringing Reagan conservatism back to the White House, Ted Cruz is still the best choice. I can see Rubio as an excellent Vice President at this point, but he’s not ready for the Oval Office.
Voting for Rubio to be the GOP nominee would be a mistake this year. At this point, he’s behind both Trump and Cruz in his own home state of Florida. That should tell us something.
thank you. well said. Close to my thoughts; he needs to prove that he is trustworthy after the Gang of 8 debacle.
