This week representatives of the Middle East Quartet (US, EU, Russia and UN) will meet with Palestinian and Jerusalem officials to discuss actions on prior agreements that would facilitate a two-state solution.
The meeting comes on the heels of a statement made to the UN by Abbas who said that the PA would not abide by the Oslo peace accord. Recently, the Quartet released a statement stressing the importance of the Arab Peace Initiative made in 2002 and that it must be followed.

The Quartet said that it will “engage directly with the parties in order to explore concrete actions both sides can take…” This meeting comes as violence continues throughout Israel. Palestinians have used bombs, knives and rocks to kill Israeli citizens who have nothing to do with the situation. Both the US and Israel have called the recent Palestinian attacks on Israelis acts of terror.
Incitement of violence has been made by Abbas as Palestinians accuse Israel of “seeking” to curtail Muslim rights on the Temple Mount. Keep in mind, they have done nothing to change the status quo and have made multiple announcements that no such thing will happen.

Just the notion that Israel is thinking of changing the status quo has given some Palestinians reason to kill Jews demonstrating that it is looking for any opportunity to lash out against a people they refuse to recognize. It would seem that the Quartet, like Israel, has little to work with.
