Infographic for States with the Highest Number of Registered Hunters

States with the Highest Number of Registered Hunters

Hunting might not be required to feed our families anymore but that doesn’t mean that it is not still popular. Carport Central has recently put together an infographic describing the most hunter-friendly states in the United States.

Top 10 Hunter Friendly States (Infographic)

The infographic, Top Ten Hunting States in America, offers stats on the percentage of Americans that hold a hunting license within that state.  They are ranked by the percentage of their population that have hunting licenses but the states on this list might surprise you.

It also explains what species of game each state is likely hunting.  From turkeys to mountain lions, this infographic breaks it all down:

10. Vermont

While better known for its fresh produce and maple syrup, it’s lesser-known that Vermont is actually a very popular hunting state. The most popular game in the Green Mountain State is White-tailed deer, black bear with 11.5% of citizens having hunting licenses.

9. West Virginia

Country roads, scenic views, and vast forests. It’s not surprising that West Virginia comes in at #9 with 12% of the population being licensed hunters. The most popular game hunted in West Virginia is White-tail Deer. Deer are so plentiful that there are even urban hunts to help control the deer population.

8. Wisconsin

While you may visit Wisconsin for their cheese, there is more America’s Dairyland has to offer. Such as huge and healthy Deer. 12.2% of the population have hunting licenses. Wisconsin also has over 572,00 acre of public hunting land for residents to peruse that trophy buck.

7. Maine

Home of lobster, loads of waterfront, and also large game like black bear and moose. Despite lobster being the largest animal product in Maine, 12.5% of Mainers have hunting licenses. Aside from Alaska, Maine has the highest population of Black Bear and Moose, which means if you’re in search of big game, Maine is the place to be.

6. Alaska

At 14.6% Alaska really isn’t a surprise. Known as the last frontier, Alaska’s land is vast and still very much wild. This means that hunting may be more than a sport to the people of Alaska, making hunting very respected and protected in this state.

5. Idaho

With the majority of the state being public land, the opportunity to hunt is literally everywhere. Which is why 16.2 of people in the Gem State are licensed. It’s home to white-tail deer, mule deer, turkeys, even mountain lions. Yes, mountain lions.

4. North Dakota

While North Dakota has the highest population of mule deer in the states, it also is home to some other game such as elk, ducks, and pheasants. With the high population of wildlife, the population of hunters is also great. 18.5% of North Dakotans are licensed hunters and that’s the reason it makes #4 on the list.

3. Wyoming

Making it into the top 3 is Wyoming, the Cowboy State. Like its name might hint at, it’s a somewhat wild place. Home to Elk, deer, mountain goats, and antelope, this place is where the die-hard hunter goes in their dreams. 22% of residents in Wyoming are licensed carrying hunters.

2. Montana

The Treasure State comes in at #2 with 23% of citizens licensed to hunt. The real treasure of the state is the scenery and wildlife. With a variety of incredible animals like bison, bighorn sheep, deer, and antelope, this vast state has some of the best hunting in the country.

1. South Dakota

Here we are at #1. The Mount Rushmore state. A beautiful state with diverse land and an incredible amount of wildlife. While famous for pheasants, you can also find antelope, buffalo, mountain lions, mountain goats, elk, deer, and bighorn sheep. With over a quarter of the population licensed there is no better hunting in the states than South Dakota.

This Infographic Really Hits It’s Mark

So why the vested interest in hunter-filled states?

Carport Central offers steel manufactured buildings of all shapes and sizes and suggests steel hunting cabins for a durable, 4 Seasons-ready material that won’t let you down.

Avid hunters in need of an upgrade should consider their metal buildings as an alternative to wood or other materials that may require serious upkeep or breakdown more rapidly over time than their steel constructed options.

We’re all about this infographic for a few reasons:

  1. It boasts one of our key Infographic Best Practices, which is to know thy audience!
  2. It also features eye-catching design elements that tie directly into the content, for example, the use of the rifle scope image used to frame the numbers in the list.
  3. It’s informative and well-organized in a fun way that the reader doesn’t get lost from data point to data point.

Way to hit the mark Carport Central!
